error installing WordPressMU

Hi,
Following the instruction I install WordPress MU in local host in the htdocs root in a brand new XXAMP configuration.
Step 1 to 4 were easy.
in step 5 I want to visit
http://example.com/index.php
and the result is
Warning!
Installing to http://localhost/ is not supported. Please use http://localhost.localdomain/ instead.What went wrong?
