Blocks for Sermon Manager allows you to display sermons from the Wordpress\nPlugin Sermon Manager or Mattytap Sermons within the block builder of\nyour website without resorting to using the normal shortcodes.<\/p>\n\n
This plugin provides three kinds of Blocks:<\/p>\n\n
Blocks that bring the existing shortcodes to the Block editor<\/p>\n\n
These blocks bring the shortcode attributes to the block so that you\ncan edit the attributes in the block editor and see the effect immediately.\nThe block will call through to the existing shortcode code in the background\nwhen the page or post it is included in is displayed. With these blocks\nyou can replace the existing shortcodes with blocks and see\nthe same output as before. We provide blocks for the following\nSermon Manager shortcodes:<\/p>\n\n
sermons<\/strong> ... to display a list or grid of sermons, with many\nfilters to focus in on a specific set of sermons if needed. This is\nin the block called \"Display Sermons\"<\/p><\/li>\n sermon_images<\/strong> ... to display the images of each series, (not\nsermons, despite the name) optionally with the series title and\/or\ndescription extract. This is in the block called \"Sermon Images\"\ndespite the obvious misnomer of the original short-code.<\/p><\/li>\n sermon_sort_fields<\/strong> ... to display the filter bar that allows\nthe user to 'drill down' the list of sermons displayed. This is\nin the block called \"Display Filters\" because that makes more sense!<\/p><\/li>\n list_sermons<\/strong> ... to display a simple text list of series,\npreachers, service types, bible books or topics from the sermon\ntaxonomies. This is in the block called \"List Sermons\", again\ndespite the obvious misnomer of the original shortcode.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n Blocks that provide sermon grids and lists without dependence on the\nexisting shortcodes.<\/p>\n\n These have less configuration and give a predefined\noutput that should be suitable for most uses. Currently we provide:<\/p>\n\n Sermon grid<\/strong> ... where each sermon is displayed in a 'card'\nwith the sermon image and details and a link to the fuller single\nsermon page.<\/p><\/li>\n Single sermon<\/strong> ... to display one sermon with the sermon image,\nall its details and a media player.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n These blocks can also be put into Block Theme templates for Sermon\nManager Sermons \/ Series \/ Book \/ Author \/ Service Type template pages<\/p><\/li>\n Field blocks<\/p>\n\n These blocks allow each field of Sermon Manager data to be included\nwithin a bespoke 'Query Loop' block so that you can create your own\nlists of sermons with bespoke look and feel from within the block\neditor without having to do any coding.<\/p>\n\n The plugin also provides some example Query Loop patterns that use these\nfields to output Sermon Grids, Sermon Lists and Single Sermons.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n If you have a problem or a feature request, please send a message to the\nauthor using the 'Support' tab.<\/p>\n\n These blocks are currently in use on the www.cambray.org church website.<\/p>\n\n On the Latest Sermons page: https:\/\/www.cambray.org\/resources\/latest-sermons\/<\/p>\n\n The shortcode block Display Sermons<\/strong> is used for the Recent Sermons\nat the top of the page, and the Sermon Images<\/strong> block is used for the\nimage grid of the past sermon series.<\/p><\/li>\n On the All Sermons page: https:\/\/www.cambray.org\/sermons<\/p>\n\n The Sermon Grid<\/strong> block, preceded by the Sermon Filter<\/strong>\nblock are used to display the list of all sermons.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n This plugin relies on the Sermon Manager or MattyTap Sermons plugin being\nalready installed and sermons already entered into the website. It is\npurely to enable the display of sermons to be more 'block friendly' and \ndoes not replace or change any of the functionality of these plugins.<\/p>\n\n The following allows you to re-create a sermon grid layout. This is just\nan example - you can create whatever output look you want!<\/p>\n\n Providing these blocks gives you infinite flexibility in the layout of the\nlists of sermons you want to produce - just lay it out yourself! The\nsuggestion above for containers is only a helpful suggestion!<\/p>\n\n We also provide a number of Block Patterns for commonly used sermon\nlayouts - just drag and drop one in, change what details you want, and\nit gives you a great shortcut to produce bespoke sermon list layouts.<\/p>\n\n The Query Loop container will automatically add pagination as needed.<\/p>\n\n If you want to provide the sermon filter bar, just add the filter bar\nblock before or after the container holding the query loop.<\/p>\n\n The plugin is released under the GNU General Public License. A\ncopy of this license can be found at the license homepage or in the top\ncomment within the From within Wordpress - In the Wordpress Dashboard use the menu to go\nto Plugins and from there choose 'Add new plugin'. Search for\n'sermon manager' and then look for this plugin. Select the 'install'\nbutton on the plugin to install it, and once installed use the\n'activate' link to activate the plugin.<\/p><\/li>\n If you want to install from github:<\/p>\n\n Once you have used either method to install the plugin, you need to\nthen add a block (see examples below) to your wordpress posts or pages\nwhere you need them<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n Some of the look and feel can be changed via editable block attributes\n ... try these to see what effect they have. We'll be adding more\n configuration options in the future.<\/p>\n\n You can also use CSS to style all blocks - we seek to use all the \n Sermon Manager css classes and, by adding Block themes don't look for Template files in the plugin. You need\n to create your own Templates in the Full Site Editor for each\n Template needed.<\/p>\n\n So, in the Full Site Editor, move to the Templates page, and add a \n new template - the names should be (for each template kind):<\/p>\n\n Within these you can use the blocks supplied.<\/p>\n\n So, for example, you could use (for example) the Sermon Grid\nblock preceded by the Sermon Filters block for all but the Single\nSermon template.
